On 1st November the presentation ceremony took place of the first Uckfield Chamber of Commerce Business Awards at the East Sussex National Hotel. It was a packed evening with over 330 attendees. Lawson Commercial sponsored and judged the Small Business Category which was well supported with over 16 entries from a wide variety of businesses including a scientific research company, retailers, manufacturing companies and several service-based businesses.
From the written entries a short list of four was drawn up which included Oncology Imaging Systems, Reversing Made Easy, Pipe Dreams and KBC PR & Marketing. Each of these four was visited by Lawson Commercial partners Chris & Julia Lawson. It was a difficult sector to judge due to the range of businesses entered and there were many good entries. Any one of our short list would have been a deserving winner. We finally selected KBC PR & Marketing who specialise in travel promotion and are based in Falmer Court. This is a business which has been built up by the proprietor Kate Burgess-Craddy through determination and hard work over a considerable period of time to create a niche in what they do. It is interesting to note that Kate was also awarded the Business Person of the Year Award. Also of note is that Pipe Dreams, one of our short list, won the Retailer of the Year Award.
