Lawson Commercial partner Chris Lawson was one of a team of five who met recently with Government Planning Minister Nick Boles together with Wealden MP Charles Hendry at Portcullis House opposite the Houses of Parliament in London. The team was representing Crowborough and Uckfield Chambers of Commerce and were there to put their concerns to the Planning Minister regarding the 7km Planning Rule which Wealden District Council have introduced as part of their Core Strategy. This Rule has already adversely affected both residential and commercial development in North Wealden. Chris Lawson has been protesting about this policy right from the start last year. It is definitely having an impact and the team were able to give the Minister and Charles Hendry some examples of businesses that are adversely affected by the new Rule and the impact it is going to have on the business community. The meeting was very positive and the Minister admitted that other councils in the U.K. were also using the Habitat Regulations to frustrate development but he said that the situation in Wealden is the most extreme example his Department have come across so far.
