Following the announcement that Glynde Estates wanted to retain the Forge at Glynde as a working forge in the village after the retirement of the previous tenant, marketing commenced and we had a huge amount of interest.
People from all over the southeast contacted us for details and several of whom were past or present students of Plumpton College. There is clearly a wealth of talent in metal working including sculpting and design and so few places for such artists to practice their craft. We were shown some very impressive portfolios. The final selection was made by Lord Hampden together with Nick Jones, his Estates Manager and terms have now been agreed with a candidate and solicitors have been instructed. The selected candidate has a National Diploma in Blacksmithing and Metalsmithing with triple distinction from Plumpton College and received the award for top overall student of his year.
He intends to run a traditional working forge and has a strong belief that Blacksmithing is not just a craft but also an art. It is hoped that the Forge will be open again and working under the new tenant in a couple of months time.
Lawson Commercial have been instructed to let a delightful lockup shop on Uckfield High Street which has been fully refurbished throughout including a new shopfront, new suspended ceilings, rewiring, underfloor heating + complete redecoration and re-carpeting.
In total the shop comprises just over 350 sq ft presently divided into part retail and part storage.
The current rent is £9,000 pa and the premises benefit from a break clause option that can be operated in June 2017. The advantage of taking over this lease is that a business can test the market for nearly 12 months and if at the end of that time it is not as successful as hoped or indeed more successful and needs to expand then the break clause can be operated. For more information give us a call.
Lawson Commercial have let a modern industrial unit with compound and trade counter use in Bell Lane, Uckfield. 28 Bell Lane has been let to Triple R Engineering who are well known in the local area as specialising in all aspects of fork lift trucks including sales, maintenance, repairs, servicing etc.
They are relocating from Squires Farm Industrial Estate to these significantly larger premises to enable them to expand and improve their business. The new property is just over 5,000 sq ft including some 1st floor offices and has a very useful secure yard of just under 4,000 sq ft.
We are delighted to welcome Triple R Engineering to the Bell Lane Estate which should heighten their prominence and give them improved access to their many customers on the Bellbrook.
Following the sad departure of Jeremy Fry due to his father’s ill health, the Team at Lawson Commercial are delighted to welcome David Burke to head the Professional Department.
David has been a asset manager of commercial property for over 25 years and, having run a number of family property portfolios, has a wealth of experience in commercial property management. Having two retrievers himself he is also approved by the Canine Team.
He has spent most of his property career working in London and Europe but living in Hayward Heath, felt it was time to give up the rat race and work more locally. He now joins the firm to assist on the property management and professional side where his vast experience will be put to good use.
We are very pleased to have secured David’s services as commercial property management is playing an ever important part of our business. We have been successful in gaining a number of new commercial property management instructions and need a strong department in this area. With an ever increasing burden of current and forthcoming legislation it is important to have a high level of expertise in this complex field. So if you need assistance with commercial property management or would like an informal chat to discuss possibilities do give us a call.
It is not often you get a freehold barbers for sale but we have just been instructed to market a superb corner building in Bexhill.
The ground floor and basement make a spacious and well fitted salon, the flat above being sold off on long leases.
Also included in the sale is a second shop in the process of being let to provide an income £6,000 pa.
All in all this is an excellent opportunity with considerable potential for an existing barbers/hair salon business wanting to expand. Do contact us for more information.
Works to construct the new John Lewis distribution warehouse at the Ashdown Business Park in Maresfield are progressing extremely quickly. A substantial amount of the new steel frame is now up. We understand the work is going well and they hope to have the building ready for fit out in July and ready for occupation by September.
We are receiving good interest in the remaining plots and have agreed terms to sell Site 8 to a local business which will be subject to changing the original planning permission that has been granted. We are pleased to see a local business taking this opportunity to purchase and construct their own headquarters building at this location. We have serious negotiations in hand for Site 5 and it is hoped this will go into lawyers hands’ shortly. However there are still several other sites available of varying sizes
