Following the recent closure due to retirement of Chatfields the Jewellers we have already found a new jeweller to take over their former premises at 39 High Street, Uckfield.
This is an established jeweller with premises in another town who are opening a second branch. They hope to be installed and trading before Christmas although there are some essential works to be carried out to the building. The Landlords will be doing some roof repairs starting at the end of October which unfortunately will require scaffolding for about 8 weeks. This is not ideal just before Christmas but necessary. However this has not deterred the new potential occupier from coming to the Town and we look forward to hearing that the new lease has been signed very shortly.
We have just been instructed to market a little shop in Mayfield High Street which would be ideal as a small office.
It would not require planning as this would be allowed under permitted development. The shop has some 241 sq ft with a shopfront in a good position in the High Street and is available at only £3,500 pa.
So a great opportunity for someone who wants to test the market in this sought after location.
This unit is in an excellent position and adjoins HSS Hire and The Tool Store, being in The Enterprise Centre, off Bell Lane.
The unit has 1,155 sq ft of ground floor space, which is part showroom and part office/store, plus a mezzanine of 1,000 sq ft above.
It is available on a new lease at a rent of £9,500 pa for a quick letting.
We have been instructed to market one of the Pentex Centre units which a few years ago was occupied by Davies & Tate Windows.
This is a smart, modern unit of just under 4,000 sq ft with a small amount of office space and very good car parking/loading area.
Situated in a prominent position it is available on a new lease.
Allsorts, the well known variety store at 114 High Street, Uckfield, have taken a short term occupancy of 75 High Street, Uckfield, which is almost directly opposite their current premises for the run up to Christmas.
This will allow them to significantly expand the great range of goods they can sell over this important period. We have agreed terms to let 75 High Street to a more permanent tenant who proposes to open a new catering style operation but this will require planning permission so that will take a few weeks. Rather than leave the shop empty in this prominent location, the landlord felt it would be much better and look much nicer to allow a local retailer to use the space to offer an expanded range over the Christmas period.
Following the expansion of K2 Logistics into a much larger unit up at Knights Business Centre, Palehouse Common we have found a new occupier for their former unit.
Revive Joinery, currently based in Brighton, have recently taken this space. They are an interesting business being a furniture design company that creates tailored reclaimed wood and industrial furniture for domestic and commercial clients. As their name suggests they turn industrial and commercial materials into high end unique furniture using reclaimed materials.
A fascinating addition to the vibrant and entrepreneurial businesses in this area.
Lawson Commercial are sponsors and hence judges of the Small Business Section in the Uckfield Business Awards.
We have received 17 entries for this category which is fantastic and makes it one of the largest number of entries in any category for some years. We are working our way through all the submissions which make fascinating reading and have visiting several of the entrants to gain a better understanding of their business. Judging is a very difficult job with such a diverse range of businesses and there certainly are some amazing small businesses in the Uckfield area. A short list is to be supplied to the organisers by 5 October with a winner to be announce at the Awards Dinner on 10 November.
