It was a tremendous evening. We had over 330 people at the Gala Dinner. There were 15 business categories all sponsored with the sponsor carrying out the judging in each category.
There were just under 1,900 nominations across all the Awards and each sponsor selected 3 finalists and the eventual winner. In the Small Business Award which we sponsored there were 23 separate businesses nominated which made judging extremely difficult but the winner was Horlock Holdcroft Financial Consultants with Runners Up being Bishops the Butchers and GBA Motor Services.
A big winner of the night was Kevin Markwick of the Uckfield Picture House with Kevin picking up the Business Person of the Year and the Outstanding Achievement Awards and The Picture House winning the Business of the Year Category.
As President, Chris Lawson also presented a special President’s Award to Sussex Support Service.
The Charity of the Night for the Raffle was Friends of Sussex Hospices whose Chairperson Kathy Gore made the draw of 3 cash prizes. £1,600 was raised for the Charity.

The Late Night Shopping in Uckfield, organised by Uckfield Chamber of Commerce, this year takes place on Friday 7th December and has been promoted in a Shopping Guide distributed widely to local residents.
This promises once again to be a great night for all the family with lots of activities going on in and around the High Street. There is the Uckfield FM stage featuring local schools singing their heart out compared by Uckfield FM’s Peter Suter plus a second stage featuring local acts compared by Uckfield FM’s Mike Mitchell. There will be a hog roast, children’s rides and of course Santa will there in his usual spot in Olives Yard plus stalls and entertainment both in Civic Approach and down at Bridge Cottage.
Whilst making your way up and down the High Street your little ones can also take part in the Hunt The Elf competition for which Lawson Commercial is proudly supplying the prizes. It will be a great night out with something for everyone and deserves the support of local people.
Also not to be missed is a visit to Holy Cross Church to see the fantastic Festival of Christmas Trees which is taking place from Friday 6th through to Sunday 8th December.
Let us also spare a thought for the retailers of Heathfield. As many will know the shopkeepers in Heathfield have suffered from the recent roadworks with its road closure to through traffic. This is coming to an end shortly and should have finished by the beginning of December. Heathfield Chamber of Commerce have organised a Christmas Family Fun Day for Saturday 8th December.
This is an all day event with many activities going on throughout the town centre so please go and support these traders many of whom have undergone considerably loss of trade over the recent roadworks period.
